I got into drugs at 16. It started with marijuana — just a way to fit in with a crowd I never would have been part of otherwise. I was always the weird, awkward kid with not many friends, and suddenly I had people around me. Then it grew. Psychedelics. Coke. And one by one, those people disappeared or drifted away. The drugs stayed.

It got bad enough that I was sitting in my bedroom one night with a gun in my hand, ready to be done with it. Then my grandmother knocked on my door to check on me.

I said I was fine. Put the gun away. Walked out to see her.

That knock changed everything. I went clean cold turkey after that — no program, no support, just a decision. There were nights I couldn’t move, just lying in bed shaking, waiting for my body to catch up to the choice I’d made. Eventually it did.

I haven’t touched anything since.

I built The Hard Answer because I know what it’s like to be completely alone in that moment. No tool. No coach. Nobody knocking on the door. I got lucky. I want to be the knock for someone else.

Before you start, see your gap.

The distance between who you say you’re becoming and what your current behavior pattern shows. That’s what we measure.

URGE — PHONE ADDICTION

I’m about to open TikTok for the third time today. I don’t even want to. It’s just automatic.

You said you’re becoming someone who is present. Right now you’re about to hand 45 minutes to an app that gives you nothing back. Three alternatives: put the phone in another room for 20 minutes, text someone real, or go outside. You don’t have to want to. Just pick one.

RELAPSE — ALCOHOL

I had three drinks last night. I told myself I’d stop at one.

That’s your second break this week. The cost: a morning you can’t get back and a rule you set for a reason. What was happening right before the second drink — social pressure, stress, or autopilot? Name it. Tomorrow the rule is one drink maximum, and you text me before ordering the second.

12 things people quit with The Hard Answer.

Phone Addiction

The coach intercepts the scroll before it starts and helps you see the pattern — not just the moment.

Alcohol

Meets you at the moment you’re reaching for the drink and ties every decision back to who you said you’re becoming.

Porn

Private. No judgment. Intercepts during the urge window and helps you see what’s actually driving the behavior.

Smoking

Surfaces the specific trigger, names the 3-5 minute craving window, and gives you one thing to do instead.

Vaping

Treats vaping as what it is — a stronger nicotine dependency wrapped in a more acceptable device.

Gambling

Intercepts before the bet. Names the fantasy — whether it’s chasing a win or recovering a loss — and offers a real exit.

Overspending

Catches the impulse before checkout. Asks what emotion you’re trying to buy your way out of.

Social Media

Distinguishes mindless scrolling from intentional use and helps you do the thing you’re actually avoiding.

Overeating

Names the feeling underneath the craving. Asks what you’re really hungry for.

Sugar

Gets you through the 15-minute craving window with a concrete alternative and reminds you why you started.

Caffeine

Separates the ritual from the dependency and helps you break the sleep-caffeine cycle.

Anger & Rage

Intercepts in the 3-6 second window between trigger and explosion. Names the real feeling underneath.

30 seconds.

That’s the window. Research shows cravings peak and pass in 30 to 120 seconds. Most people don’t have anything in that window. The Hard Answer intercepts it.
